Tribute to the
S Type Hyper |
|
 |
Colin Mackenzie kindly submitted some excellent photos of Hypers in recent
action, together with a wonderful photo of the 1928 Ulster TT.
The photo shows
race-winner Kaye Don's Lea-Francis Hyper in a brave "outside line" passing maneuver in the opening
laps at Ards. |
| Colin obtained
the photo from a dealer at Prescott, and it prompted some debate in our
Yahoo group. One thing is certain, the 1928 Ulster TT occupies
a very special place in Lea-Francis history, and it is only appropriate
that this historic victory should be featured here in a
Tribute to the Lea-Francis
Hyper. For the benefit of newer
members, accounts of the 1928 Ulster TT have been added to the Tribute
page, including one written by the current owner of the 4½ liter Bentley
that finished in seventh place.
The Lea-Francis Hyper that won the race is still with us, pictured
above first in Kaye Don's hands taking the chequered flag at Ards in 1928, and then in Club President Tom Delaney's
hands in 2004.
