Lea-Francis started serious work on motorcycles in 1911
and in 1912 a well-designed V-twin 3¼hp JAP engined motorcycle was launched. One of the first customers for the Lea-Francis motorcycle was George Bernard Shaw who, in his mid 50's, had taken up motorcycling.

The marque soon achieved a reputation for reliability
and, in 1919, a Lea-Francis motorcycle rushed the first pictures of the
Armistice from London to Glasgow for publication in the Glasgow editions of
the Daily Record and the Daily Mail. Lea-Francis motorcycle production ceased in 1924, with approximately 1500 quality machines having been built. 20 Lea-Francis motorcycles are believed to be in existence to this date, and 4 are currently owned by Club members. |
