    Lea-Francis Unihorse tractor 1961 - 1962

Engine: BSA 420cc sv

This small garden tractor was at least a small success when introduced in 1961, unlike the company's previous venture, the Lynx.

The Unihorse – its name derived from the animal depicted on the Lea-Francis badge, a combination of unicorn and sea-horse – was powered by a BSA side-valve unit of 420cc capacity, with a three-speed gearbox.

There was a choice of rope or electric starter, and a number of optional implements could be fitted for mowing, ploughing, pumping etc, making it quite a versatile little machine.

Only a few were made before the receivers were called in in 1962, but Williams Ltd bought the rights and continued production for several years. Currently five have owners in our Club.
