The 1928 Ulster TT at Ards truly deserves more detail than can be given here. Suffice it to say that Kaye Don won the race in a Lea-Francis Hyper (No. 24) and the photo above (detail inset right) captures his daring "round the outside" pass in the early stages of the race.

This race was watched by a crowd of some 250,000 and the victory was a tremendous achievement for Lea-Francis. Kaye Don's winning Lea-Francis Hyper was Chassis No. 14053 and carried Registration No. WK 6847. Kaye Don won the race 13 seconds ahead of the second placed Alvis, truly a remarkable achievement.

Those in search of  more details of this historic race victory can do no better than to read Barrie Price's book "The Lea-Francis Story" to learn the true magnitude of Kaye Don's victory.

In December 2000, Classics magazine published an article by Andrew Noaks, who traces the history of the TT while driving an Audi TT Roadster. Please click here to read the article.

In June 2003, The Automobile Magazine published a fascinating account of the race. Please click here to view the article.
